Treading new technological territory

Rado is premiering a breakthrough technology in the high-tech ceramic models of its new Rado HyperChrome Collection. Sophisticated injection moulding has enabled the creation of a one-piece (monocoque) high-tech ceramic case, where the case forms the entire structure of the finished timepiece. Differentiating this monocoque case from others is the full integration of the lugs and surrounding brackets into the high-tech ceramic form. These watches come in sleek black or pure white and demonstrate impressive hardness of 1’250 Vickers. They are embraced by parentheses in a variety of metallic finishes, echoed by matching dial detail to distinguish indexes and chronograph discs and on the chronographs’ pushers.

Time in parentheses

Literally bracketing together the 27-strong Rado HyperChrome family is a design incorporating contrasting elements on either side of the case to resemble elegantly elongated parentheses. Mirroring the heat-intensive processes pioneered by Rado to create its innovative materials, these watches harmoniously unite high-tech ceramic, Ceramos™ and diamonds.

A selection of hardened metal versions in golden- or silver-coloured steel adopts the same construction, presenting a classical alternative. Individual timekeeping tastes are accommodated by automatic chronographs and three-hand automatic or quartz versions. Size variations satisfy his and her styles and preferences. The perfectly round frame around the dial has an ultra-modern, smooth surface inspired by the enigmatic ring around the planet Saturn. In all of the models in the new line, Rado showcases its skill at uniting shapes from the past and materials of the present, in products for the future with unrivalled comfort, durability and Swiss precision. Digression is both desired and gained in watches inspired by such famous ancestors such as the Rado Golden Horse Collection.

Mind over matter

Over 260 guests from 51 countries attended a spectacular Rado event in Dubai on 8 February. The city’s strong identity as a dynamic melting pot provided the ideal setting for the international launch of the Rado HyperChrome. The new family incorporates a world first in high-tech ceramic watch case construction, where the watch forms the entire structure of the finished timepiece. Mirroring the product presentation was a live performance comprising of a spectacular synthesis of art forms, from dance to digital animation. Each element of the event played a key role in confirming the Swiss brand’s mastery of materials and its ability to transform apparently distant visions into touchable reality.

Addressing the audience, Rado CEO Matthias Breschan drew many parallels between Dubai and Rado. “Every day this city witnesses the amazing transformation of desert and sea into a fast-paced metropolis. Every day at Rado we can see fine powder turned into high-tech ceramic with hardness of 1,250 Vickers, or a watch shape, initially deemed impossible to create, materialise before our eyes. Both Rado and Dubai appear to have a relentless passion for breaking records!” The products premiered in Dubai will be on show in the Rado stand at BASELWORLD from the 8th to 15th of March 2012.

Rado & Mubadala World Tennis Championship Abu Dhabi

As the official timekeeper for the fourth series of the Mubadala World Tennis Championships Abu Dhabi, Rado is delighted to be taking part in this unique event in which Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, David Ferrer, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gaël Monfils will be competing, to the enthusiastic cheering of the spectators at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in the heart of the largest sports complex in the Middle East.

Captivating in its format, this exhibition tournament will also provide an opportunity for Rado to present its model the Carbon Diffused Steel Rado D-Star, an automatic timepiece embodying the clean lines and pioneering technology that underpin the signature of the brand. Derived from the revolutionary Rado DiaStar, the first watch made of hardmetal and fitted with a sapphire crystal which has emerged as a standard watch, the reworking of this design icon still has the power to attract with the characteristic elliptic case surrounding the round dial. In aesthetic terms it is unique in its pureness, like the deceptive simplicity of an expertly executed forehand shot.

The Rado D-Star 200

A ten-strong crew of new automatic Rado timepieces demonstrates watertight style, teamed with reliable performance above and below sea level. In the Rado D-Star 200 watches, diving-inspired design features flow into an eye-catching case, all sealed by water resistance up to 20 bar. As the latest additions to the Rado D-Star family, they cause a refreshing visual splash with their looks, and give these depth with a Swiss automatic movement, robust materials and uncompromising attention to detail. There are five chronograph versions and five classic three-hand models. These watches belong to the essential equipment of sporty individuals in all locations, regardless of whether they are wearing a dry suit or a business suit.

Navigating new waters
From a performance perspective, the Rado D-Star 200 watches are ready to navigate new waters confidently. The main family descends directly from the Rado DiaStar, the world’s first scratch-resistant watch, launched in 1962. Elegantly punctuating this heritage with modern touches, the three-hand executions integrate a Cyclops cut magnifying lens in the gently domed sapphire crystal, over the date display. Meticulous design detail adds further buoyancy to wearability and practicality, such as bracelets integrating high-tech ceramic links or sturdy rubber straps. This finds further expression in metallised, steel- and gold-coloured applied indexes, a uni-directional bezel inserted with high-tech ceramic and a moving anchor symbol, trademark of the Swiss-made automatic movement inside.

Style landmarks
Each of the ten Rado D-Star 200 watches has its own distinctive identity. Immersing itself in the nautical theme is a model with a glimmering ocean-blue dial and matching bezel. Brushed and polished stainless steel further mirrors the maritime mood. Moving closer to dry land is a piece combining sleek black elements with the shining stainless steel structure, ideal equipment for sporty individuals. And captaining a classical look is a version with an elegant grey dial, black bezel and silver-coloured stainless steel bracelet. Wearers will never be at sea when it comes to choosing the appropriate watch to time their active, fast-paced lifestyles.
