Diamonds and other gemstones: fascinating and beautiful
With their shine, color intensity, and flawless purity, gemstones such as diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds have fascinated mankind since time immemorial. The gemstones used by Rado meet the highest standards in quality. This brief gemstone glossary shows the defining characteristics of premium diamonds and other gemstones.
Diamonds
The four “C”s – carat, clarity, color, cut – play a decisive role when determining the quality of a diamond.
Carat weight
The weight, and therefore the size, of a diamond is specified in karats. One karat equals 0.2 gram. For the Rado models “Jubilé” and “Superjubilé”, stones of different weight and size classes are used.
Clarity
A diamond is considered to be completely flawless if no inclusions are visible at ten times magnification. Rado diamonds fall into the VVS clarity class (tiny inclusions that are difficult to see at ten times magnification).
Color
The color spectrum of diamonds ranges from colorless – the most valuable type – to yellow. Rado diamonds have the color classification of Top Wesselton (above-average quality).
Cut
The manner in which a diamond is cut and polished is very important. The cut is what releases the fire, the shine, and the light of the diamond. The diamonds used for the Rado “Jubilé” and “Superjubilé” have been cut with an 8/8 or full cut (brilliant), depending on their size.
Other gemstones
There is no uniform nomenclature for describing the clarity or color of sapphires, rubies, or emeralds. The gemstones used by Rado meet the highest demands in quality.
