Iconic Timepieces - Captain Cook

Captain Cook - the modern interpretation of a vintage look

Rado unveiled its iconic diving watch, the Captain Cook, in 1962. As the marketing campaign announced, “doctors, engineers, athletes, deep sea divers, racing car drivers... this is the watch for you.” It featured a pivoting anchor under the 12 o'clock mark – the first appearance of Rado's world-famous trade mark. The anchor was not just an aesthetic consideration. It was mounted on a lubricated ruby bearing behind the dial. When it stopped rotating freely, it indicated that the watch movement needed to be serviced.

Captain Cook 2017

For the modern adventurer

In 2017, more than half a century after the original, the Captain Cook was re-launched in a new and improved form for the modern adventurer. With vintage details and styling true to the original (37mm), and up-to-date features that make it a match for modern wearers, Captain Cook is a watch designed to stand the test of time. The 42mm Captain Cook that followed in 2019 is water-resistant to 30 bar (300m) and has proved a hit with contemporary watch wearers and modern explorers. In 2021, Rado presented the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic (43mm) and set a new benchmark for the iconic watch in its signature material – high-tech ceramic.
