Limited edition Rado Ceramica: a Good Design Australia Selection

The Rado Ceramica has received design accolades down under: The iconic timepiece, relaunched in a new look last year, has been chosen as a Good Design Australia Selection.

Explaining their decision, the Good Design Australia jury commented: “Rado sets the benchmark for great design and the Rado Ceramica lifts this design aesthetic to a new level. The jury commends the designer for taking a restrained approach in the design of the piece that has resulted in an elegant, sophisticated and timeless object. The innovative use of materials and detailed level of design works seamlessly to produce a highly desirable timepiece that elevates this category.”

These latest design accolades from Good Design Australia make the new Rado Ceramica a two-time award winner: The watch was also recently honoured with the 2017 Red Dot Product Design award.

Contemporary cool

Limited to just 701 pieces, the award-winning Ceramica stands out not only because of its velvety sandblasted finish, but also thanks to the creative use of typography on the dial. “In my opinion, the matt finish brings out the form of the watch much stronger,” says co-creator and renowned industrial designer Konstantin Grcic. “The design of the dials is bold and legible. I took inspiration from pilot watches – I like them for their straightforward, clear graphics.”

As the name suggests, the Ceramica is crafted from high-tech ceramic, a material favoured among many high-end watchmakers for its exceptional properties. Discover the Ceramica collection here.

The international jury of Design Prize Switzerland was won over by the young company's product, which sterilizes medical instruments in an innovative way.  The young company developed an affordable new type of sterilization method that can be carried out even without reliable access to electricity or clean water.
